Eliot Hodgkin (1905 - 1987) was an English painter, born in London, best known for his meticulously detailed still lifes, executed in tempera or oil. Hodgkin studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in Camden Street and was a pupil of the draughtsman Ernest Jackson, remaining under his guidance at the Royal Academy School. Hodgkin showed his first solo exhibition at Picture Hire Gallery, 1935. He later showed at RA, Wildenstein, Leicester Galleries, NEAC, RBA and in New York. Currently, a selection of his pieces reside in the Tate Gallery, London.
